September 2015-  to the present Yitong university ,Associate professor of English

September 2001-June 2009 Newmarket High School. Teacher of English and History._`

September 2004-June2010-ESL teacher (York  Region School Board) Managed 4 ESL classes in Newmarket, Vaughan, Unionville and Thornhill. My Thornhill class was the largest  . I averaged 43 students per semester.

Spring 1998-2001: Hodgson Senior Public School:  Teacher at hodgson contributing in all subject areas as well as in the school’s community events such as Spirit Day and the Track and Field Events.  Became the emergency supply teacher for both History and French departments.

 

Fall/Winter 1999: John MacRae Public School:   Teacher contributing to subject areas of history and physical education (volleyball, track and field).

 

Spring 1995-1999: Toronto Waldorf School:  Teacher  in all subject areas.  Took on project to develop a boys’ ball hockey team to compete in intermural private school competition.  Created program, worked with the team and succeeded in winning the championship.

 

KEY TEACHING ACCOMPLISHMENTS - As Related to Youth with Special Needs.

 

1989 to mid-1993:  Youth Counselor, Oakwood Child Services:  As counselor supervising teenaged boys with Down’s Syndrome or Autism, developed highly-successful recreational programs geared toward teaching out-of-doors life skills through such activities as day trips to parks, shopping centres, the Metro Zoo, African Lion Safari and swimming centres.  Also introduced and taught indoor life skills such as cooking and hygiene.  Encouraged other staff members to use “love” as a way to reach the children in place of the traditional treatments.  This effort resulted in a much more calm and positive environment.

 

1988 to 1989:  Youth Correctional Centre in Brampton

 

As Youth Counselor for young offenders (teenaged boys under 17), I was responsible for the development and deployment of rehabilitation programs.  I designed the programs with the purpose of building self-confidence and self-esteem which was so lacking in these boys.  For example, teaching them effective reading and writing skills, encouraging open communication and non-aggressive means of dealing with anger and frustration.

 

 

ADDITIONAL WORK EXPERIENCE

 

Sales representative for a Quebec based Courier/company (mid-1999 to 2002, Nationex Ltee)

 

In addition to courier work and for the purpose of expanding the York Region clientele for this Quebec-based package delivery company have initiated several large new accounts such as BIC (writing instruments/accessories), Dens & Dante (Dental supplies), ACME Dent (Dental supplies) and Nivel (Shopper’s Drug Marts).

 

Manager, Night Operations (1994 to mid-1999, Direct Cartage)

 

With a staff of fourteen at a third party logistics distribution facility for Business Depot in Mississauga, successfully established more efficient night shift work flows which in turn improved the morning shift efficiency.  I was also responsible for developing strong team camaraderie among the night crew members which in turn created a cascading positive effect on the morning shift and driver crew; and generally improved the overall management and employee relationships.

 

Duties included preparation of and dispatching daily truckloads to the Burlington, Kingston, Montreal, and Ottawa distribution facilities; also preparation and dispatch of five additional daily routes for the GTA, London and Windsor

 

Mid-1993 to mid-1999:   Small Business Operator

 

In a sideline occupation, was Owner/Operator of a weekend farmers’ market retailing organic food products.  Introduced many people to the vitality and good-health reasons for eating organically produced foods.

 

Mid-1991 to mid-1993: Sales and Marketing Representative for Travel Consultants Limited

 

Working with three major airlines (TAP, Varig and Aerolinas Argentinas) developed and guided numerous 15-day FIT (Foreign Independent Tour) tours for groups of travel agents introducing them to various cultures in South America, Northern Africa and Europe, the purpose of which was to provide agents with first-hand experience of the company tour packages.  Also managed design and printing of the tour brochures.  The success of these trips ensured strong promotion of the packages at the retail level.

 

1986 to 1988:  Café de la Terrace, Assistant Manager

 

In addition to studies at Glendon College (York University’s bilingual campus), I held this position, along with duties as treasurer, to create, advertise and run special events for the purpose of attracting customers.  Events included the establishment of dart leagues, procuring local bands for weekends, and so on.

 

 

Community Services Accomplishments

In 1978. I volunteered with Mother Theresa  Mission in  Culcutta , India . I worked with the ederly patients. My duties were to help them with eating ,changing clothing, bathroom assistance and changing bed linen. I also created physical activities : walking ,dancing and light work outs. In the evenings I provided them with reading ,music and movies.  

Over the last 12 years have been extensively involved in volunteer coaching of youth sports activities in North York and Aurora including rep level of both soccer and hockey.  Also established and operated summer sport camp hockey teams.

From 1979 to 1989, I played semi-pro soccer in Mississauga and on various ethnic leagues in Toronto.

 

From 1976 to 1978, I was a player on the Canadian National “Under 18” Soccer team under the direction of Jeff Whitehead.
