Previous Position:
Position Title: Operations Manager
Organisation: Outdoor Education Camp
Location: Auckland, New Zealand
Camp Adair is one of 19 business centres under the YMCA Auckland regional office. As the Operations Manager I was responsible for coordinating the client liaison, planning and delivery of services and infrastructure maintenance of Camp Adair, the largest residential outdoor education centre in New Zealand. I was required to coordinate the output of administrative, catering, instructional and maintenance staff and manage the client relationship with each functional area. I contributed to the planning and subsequently executed the strategic direction of the Y-Outdoors business unit coordinating with specialist area managers at YMCA head office for financial, marketing and human resources support. I was responsible for generating monthly financial performance reports for a centre generating over $1 million NZD annual revenue.
Notable Achievements:
Identified market gap and created proposal for an outdoors based developmental program for at risk youth in state sponsored care. I developed the concept through to personally delivering the pilot program and subsequently training staff to deliver the fully funded program. The program was fully funded by Ministry of Social Development at Auckland regional level for Child, Youth and Family Services. In its first year the program contributed an additional $24,000 to annual revenue and provided a significant positive social contribution.
Successfully applied for external corporate donor funding to develop offsite programming and construct a ‘field camp’ facility. This initiative increased potential summer capacity by 20% and over time will allow expansion into a new higher yield Secondary School market segment.
Relevant Previous Experience:
Position Title: Royal New Zealand Army Logistics Officer
Organisation: New Zealand Army
Location: New Zealand and foreign deployment locations.
After basic military training I completed Officer Selection and served for just over seven years as a logistics officer. Initially I was in command of a medium general support transport unit responsible for the administration, training and leadership of 50 soldiers and the maintenance of an aging fleet of 30 U1700l Unimog. This unit provided real time transport services to Army operations throughout the South Island of New Zealand.
In subsequent positions I was promoted to coordinating several transport, warehouse supply and workshop repair units. These units provided real time logistical support to in Camp services, training exercises, civil defence and additionally provided personnel for foreign deployment operations.
As a transport and movements officer I was required to prepare and maintain the unit air movement documentation to allow the required personnel and equipment to be deployed by air or sea within specified time frames. This role included a period where I was posted to the NZSAS as logistics officer and was required to liase with the Auckland International Airport and customs officials to allow rapid deployment at short notice periods. Throughout my career I coordinated several international deployments and quickly learned that departing NZ was much straighter forward than returning.
