WORK HISTORY:
July 2013 - present: Midas Business Consulting Ltd
I am currently working with a variety of companies as a consultant, proofreader, editor, communications trainer and a Business English trainer, through my own consulting company Midas Business Consulting Ltd. My clients include the German Chamber of Commerce, (Shanghai), and I also run seminars for client facing support professionals and support supervisors at EMC Global and HP on behalf of the Service Strategies Corporation, (New York). In addition to this, I am an accredited IBM communications trainer’ working on behalf of IBM to train their staff in China. I also work as an editor for Euromonitor, (Singapore), editing market reports for companies who are making IPOs in the Asian financial markets.
Nov 2012 – July 2013: Shanghai University SILC Faculty
Position: Lecturer. I worked as a lecturer at the Sydney Institute of Language & Commerce at Shanghai University. Ispecialised in teaching postgraduate students academic writing, researching, debating skills and presentation skills. I also ran seminars at the SILC Salon at Shanghai University, which address the different cultural aspects relating to Western business culture. In addition to this, I worked for the British Council (Shanghai) as an accredited IELTS Assessor, evaluating the English communicational abilities of candidates who wished to apply for foreign visas to work or study overseas.
May 2012 – Nov 2012: BCT Consulting & Training: (Location Shanghai China)
Position: Senior Consultant. I began working as a Business English Trainer and Corporate Skills Trainer on behalf of BCT Consulting and Training, specializing in Business English language training, (written and oral), presentation skills training, negotiation skills training and management training, and worked with BCT’s Shanghai based corporate clients until November2012. I left this position to begin working at SILC University (Shanghai).
May 2011 – April 2012: Language Key: (Location Shanghai China)
Position: Corporate Trainer. I delivered Business English Language training and Corporate Skills training including oral and written communications training on behalf of Language Key for their key clients, Linklaters (Shanghai) and UBS (Shanghai).
Unfortunately, Language Key went into receivership 1 month before completion of my contract.
Jan 10 – May 2011: Freelance Trainer: (Location Shanghai China)
I completed a three and a half month contract at J P Morgan where I provided both written and oral communication training including writing skills and writing analysis and consultancy, in respect of the coherence of multi-author financial reports, and the writing style and tone of various printed articles. I also delivered ‘business communication training seminars’ at EMC on behalf of the Service Strategies Corporation.
Oct 07 – Jan 2010: Kaien Corporate Training (Location Shanghai China)
Position: Senior Corporate Trainer. I delivered Corporate English training programs on behalf of Kaien. I worked autonomously at Kaien compiling course outlines and course training materials. I have delivered training for the following companies, HP, Sony, Intel, BT China, Emerson, Sirf, Business Objects, Braun and many other top tier companies. I also
provided soft skills and sales training for the Kaien Corporate Sales Team. In addition to this, I wrote original training dialogues and training materials, which have been used for ‘service sector’ language training purposes for China Easter Airlines and Eccom and I supplied voice-overs and voice acting for training podcasts, training CD’s and radio broadcasts. I also worked as an accredited IELTS Assessor for the British Council (Shanghai) during this period. In addition to this, I also conducted training
seminars for client facing IT engineers on behalf of the Service Strategies Corporation, (Asia Pacific), at EMC and HP.
Feb 07 – Oct 07: English First International Language School (Location Jiaxing China)
Position: Corporate Trainer. Taught a wide range of classes, including group training and one to one clients. My training
duties were extremely diverse and ranged from the tuition of company executives and doctors. I initiated EF Jiaxing’s first
corporate training programme.
Nov 06 – Feb 07: English First International Language School (Location Manchester)
TEFL Teacher Training: Completed TEFL teaching certification at English First International Language Training Institute in
Manchester and taught a verity of English classes before coming to China to work at EF (Jiaxing).
July 06 – Nov 06: Trisuko International UK (Part of the Trisuko Group) (Office Location Sheffield)
Position: Senior Account Manager. I provided ‘e-procurement training solutions’ to companies who wished to tender for
Public Sector contracts. I built a network of training consultants who acted as ‘licensed providers’ and trained companies to
implement a fully integrated management system (IMS) in order for them to become ‘pre-qualified’ for public sector tenders.
· I have extensive experience in the design and delivery of training and development programs.
· I have a proven track record of successful training projects and I can supply solid references
from Shanghai based companies and Centres of Learning.

Trisuko were aware of my intention to live and work in China in 2007 and were happy to employ me on a short-term contract
ending in Nov 2006.
Sep 03 – June 06: A4e Consult Ltd. (Part of the A4e Group of Companies) (Office Location Sheffield)
Position: Senior Business Development Manager. I made companies aware of corporate training issues such as, changes in practice, the adoption of lean principles, effective marketing, or improvements to any skills gaps identified within their corporate structure. I negotiated approval for funding, ensuring company and industry sector eligibility. I trained staff on an ongoing basis.I also regularly conducted staff appraisals and held bi-weekly meetings to deal with any key issues. I was part of the Senior.Management Team responsible for implementing policies of good practice. This was a highly complex management role,involving key negotiations. As a major sub-contractor to Government my role also involved building strong relationships with key partner organisations, such as Objective One, The Learning & Skills Council, Local Authorities, Business Links and Chambers of Commerce. I took over a small existing account management team and expanded this to a team of 12. I acted as a solutions provider for companies based in the South Yorkshire area and I was responsible for the distribution of training funds off the back of sold training provision.
May 02 – Aug 03: Minorplanet Systems plc. (Office Location Leeds)
Position: Business Development Manager. This role consisted of generating new business through client negotiations and presentations. This required an in-depth knowledge of level markets and commercial reality, providing real solutions to real problems whilst delivering a range of products and services. Successful acquisitions also relied heavily on insuring a high quality of customer service through liaising between various Minorplanet departments from installation through to business support and training. I worked in a national catchments area, which included the whole of the UK and Ireland selling a multiindustry IT product, (including both software, hardware and bolt on products). My achievements at Minorplanet were substantial yielding acquisitions such as Coca-Cola, and most contract values exceeded a million pounds. VMI business is heavily tendered for by various companies, including Siemens, Eagle Eye, Thales and Orchid.
April 00 – April 02: Freephone Local Directory Ltd. (Office Location Warrington)
Position: Business Development Manager. This role involved complex negotiations regarding the sale of advertising and web space, the construction of artwork recommendations and the set up of telecommunications packages, such as freephone and carrier pre-select services. This role involved a mixture of business development and account management combined with an in-depth knowledge of how various businesses work in order to market them effectively as well as a good knowledge of both the advertising and telecom industries. This position involved the sale of directory and web advertising and the installation of telecoms services on top of this.
March 98 – March 00: The Caudwell Group – Corporate 4u. (Office Location Crewe)
Position: Business Development Manager. I began work for the corporate arm of the Caudwell Group, (Corporate 4u), and began targeting large scale Ltd Companies and plcs. My focus was to win and develop new corporate business. I analysed my clients’ fixed line and cellular accounts, including their anticipated future needs and objectives and built up a close working relationship with them by way of consultation. I constructed proposals, which met with their requirements and built tariffs to suit
individual environments. I negotiate at board level and often won clients through levels of service and consultancy, as opposed to mere finance. My target was £25K gross profit p/m and I regularly both met and exceeded this target.
May 95 – Feb 98: Cheshire Cellular Communications Ltd. (Office Location Manchester)
Position: Director of Corporate Business. My focus was on building and maintaining client relationships and improving the loyalty of my business-to-business channel. I was responsible for running and training a sales team across the North West regional branches. I negotiated with airtime providers and cellular equipment wholesalers regarding the pricing and launch of new products. I channelled promotional incentives to my sales team and planned marketing strategies. I trained and motivated staff on an ongoing basis to reach targets and deal with market changes. I also planned, approved and amended mail shots for circulation to targeted companies and local authorities. My target was 100 new corporate cellular contracts per month and I regularly both met and exceeded this targets.
April 93 – April 95: Global Securities. (Office Location Manchester)
Position: Directed and managed my own company. Specialised in wholesale marketing to other companies and direct mail order sales to end-users. I targeted and researched market areas. Planned and negotiated advertising strategy and determined pricing policy and promotions. The company specialised in multifunctional alarm units, personal attack alarms and cordless household alarm systems, which required no installation.
