English Teacher; Yongzhou, Hunan 2016

Teaching classes of 80 high school students taught me how to teach large classes as well as the high school age group. YongZhou is a very small town, which helped my Chinese language and cultural understanding.

In Thailand I got the opportunity to teach poor immigrant children from Myanmar. This helped me to understand a lot more about Asian culture and the diversities and similarities between them. As the attitudes very different from teaching in China, I had to change some of my teaching styles to adapt, and have become a better teacher because of it.

Here I worked with children in a boarding school set up by the BMW warm heart fund. The fund was set up after the town was struck by an earthquake in 2011. I learned a lot about happiness and respect from the people of Yushu and to be thankful for what I have.

Working with children is something I really enjoy and hold dear. I believe work with children shows me my way of interacting with other people. I feel like my time with the children of Beijing have made me more aware in my professional and personal lives and has challenged me to grow.

RESEARCH ASSISTANT, MAE SOT, THAILAND 2014

I helped administer the Ages and Stages questionnaire to gauge the development of 60 Burmese refugees in Mae Sot, Thailand for the Khom Loy foundation in conjunction with a research team from Columbia University. The ongoing longitudinal studies regard physical, emotional and intellectual development to two groups of children; one at a conventional modeled school and the other using Montessori principles.

Worked as an English teacher in Montessori classroom. Two 30 minute circles a day gave me lesson planning as well a Kindergarten experience. Working at one of the best Kindergartens in Beiing was valuable because I was working with well qualified teachers.

Youth mentor, Big Brothers and big sisters; laramie, WY 2012

My first experience working with youth was when I was one myself.  I usually helped with homework and talking to middle and high school kids about their domestic concerns and academic pressures. I feel like I can relate to the confusing problems of coming of age teenagers through work and proximity to them.

A good bulk of my primary education was spent in Montesorri environments. As opposed to traditional schooling, I learned more about being respectful, conflict management and being more aware and open to others. 

Skills

I am computer literate with Windows programs and software, online

media and basic typing skills.  I am respectful and interested in others and like to formulate and share my opinions. I am a fast, independent learner and can usually figure out whatever needs to be done by myself. I am a good at finding scientific information online and can give an unbiased, logical summary on the topic is presented. I pride myself as a free, critical thinker.

Interests/Activities

An avid weight lifter, I enjoy working out and helping others achieve their

personal health goals.  I am committed to good nutrition. 

I performed and sang with the Santa Fe Opera in three productions during the 

2005 and 2006 Festival Seasons.  I also performed with various theater groups in Santa Fe from 2005-2008, including TheatreWorks.  

I enjoy working with animals and spending time with my younger siblings and other young people.

I am interested in many subjects and love to read, research, and stay up to date with current news and events in the fields that interest me.
