For two complete academic years, I taught ESL to Chinese university students in Zhengzhou, China. I facilitated speaking, writing, grammar and business English classes, and as well, hosted an “English Corner.” Further, I hosted a campus radio show on a volunteer basis.

AP Teacher

Zhengzhou Foreign Language School: October 2015 – current, Zhengzhou, China

For the past academic year, I have also being teaching AP US History and AP Public Speaking to S1, S2, and S3 groups at Henan’s most prestigious foreign language school. My students at this fine learning institution are extremely fluent, and I thrive teaching such capable learners. During this experience, I also assisted students with their applications to top US colleges, providing guidance and referrals.

ESL Tutor / Classroom Assistant

Cambrian College: Summer 2014, Sudbury, Ontario, Canada

My first experience teaching foreign students was at Cambrian College. I worked alongside ESL professors, assisting in the classroom and I also provided one-to-one tutoring to foreign students outside of class hours. I worked with students from China, Vietnam, Africa, and Saudi Arabia. The experience helped me grow tremendously as an ESL teacher by giving me the confidence that I am effective instructing students from cultural backgrounds different to my own.

Human Resources Facilitator

Sudbury Catholic School Board: May 2011 – June 2014, Sudbury, Ontario, Canada

For 3 years I was employed as a Human Resources Manager with the Sudbury Catholic School Board in Canada. Responsibilities of this role included administering instructional presentations to various groups within the school board such as students, custodians, teachers, secretaries and principals. I taught such topics as Health and Safety, Privacy Information Management, and Safe School initiatives. In this position I learned how to create and develop curriculum and how to administer lesson plans in an instructional setting. The experience instilled in me the versatility to instruct individuals from varying backgrounds and classes of society, which is quite relevant with respect to teaching ESL.

Training Instruction Supervisor

The Beer Store: November 2006 – May 2011, Sudbury, Ontario, Canada

For five years, I supervised adults performing warehouse and logistics functions for a Canadian beverage distributor, The Beer Store. My responsibilities included teaching employees in the areas of safety, policy and procedure. My role primarily focused upon the classroom instruction of adults and consequently, I became very comfortable teaching in this role. I also learned how to be very engaging, while clearly and concisely communicating curriculum in an interesting fashion.
